Discovered the most distant galaxy known so far

A team of astronomers from the McDonald Observatory, located at the University of Texas in the United States, has discovered the most distant galaxy known so far. The galaxy described dates from the time after the Big Bang , just 700 million years after it took place.

The most distant galaxy known so far has been called z8 -GND - 5296 , and represents a milestone for space research.

So far , there were some more candidates to be crowned as the most distant galaxy discovered , thanks to the extensive work of the Hubble telescope . The results of American scientists , however , published in the journal Nature , seem to confirm that this time we are in the most distant galaxy so far discovered .

a galaxy, selected among other 43 candidates , has been chosen after observations with Hubble himself MOSFIRE spectrograph and Keck Telescope in Hawaii . The latter has allowed to measure the distance between the most distant galaxy and our planet.

Observing these first galaxies is a complex task for researchers , because its light , once it reaches the Earth has shifted to the infrared. This phenomenon is forcing astronomers using increasingly sensitive spectrographs .

This is the case located in Hawaii , whose ability allows researchers to detect the redshift we mentioned earlier , which is proportional to the distance between the most distant galaxy our planet Earth.

The galaxy has a high star formation activity per year Publication in Nature of this discovery has not only confirmed that we are at the most distant galaxy known so far. Furthermore , it has been observed that the new galaxy has a high rate of star formation , located 300 times per year in the mass of the Sun

Compared to the Milky Way , this rate is very high , because our own galaxy is characterized by form between 2 and 3 stars per year. For these reasons , scientists have determined that there are areas in the universe with an intense activity in terms of the formation of stars , something that had not been confirmed so far.

By using this telescope , and the adoption of others as ALMA or expected James Webb , astronomers hope that this description of the most distant galaxy known so far is just the beginning of an intense work by the space research
